MOUNTAINS
In summertimes, once the snow melts and the forests turn green again, Abruzzo's mountains become irresistible. The luxuriant nature, woods and green fields, lakes, huge plateaus with their herds, immense landscapes, fresh air, unpolluted environments, make Abruzzo a special place, able to astonish everybody.
The noble and rough Gran Sasso with its bright limestone dominates the Apennines; just below the Corno Grande mountain we find Calderone, the only glacier present in the Apennines. Then Campo Imperatore's plain, with its 1800 meters in altitude. Laga's mountains are rich in springs, rivers and forests.
Abruzzo's most important mountain is Majella, which dominates the landscapes overtopping the sea and the Apennines.
